Outreach Ministries

Bereavement Ministry

Purpose: To extend the condolences and support of the entire parish family to those who have experienced the death of a loved one. Members take turns attending the Wake or Vigil at local funeral homes and the Funeral Mass to provide a compassionate presence. We send cards and follow-up phone calls to bereaved families. The Ministry sponsors structured small group support sessions. On November 2nd, we assist the parish and pastor and priests with the Feast of All Souls candle-lit memorial Mass.

When and Where: We meet the 3rd Tuesday of every month in the Parish Hall at 7 p.m.

Time Commitment: It is a flexible commitment based on the need for the ministry and your availability. Support groups follow a structured format covering a 10-week period. The support group meetings within the 10 weeks are held weekly and last two hours.

Talents and Gifts: We need people who are compassionate and good listeners.

Ministry of the Sick

Purpose: To visit those in need who are not capable of attending Mass regularly and receive Holy Communion, due to their illness.

When and Where: Weekly visits to the hospitals, homebound and nursing homes. For the critically ill: visits to their homes, and possibly the Hospice Care facility and the hospital.

Time Commitment: A minimum of 2–3 hours per week to make the visits on the days they are scheduled. The minister to the critically ill may be asked to see the parishioners on a daily basis.

Talents and Gifts: Able to interact with the sick person and address their needs with Holy Communion; those who help the critically ill need to be able to handle end of life issues. Need to be a commissioned Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion and have your own transportation.

New Parishioner Welcome Ministry

Purpose: To welcome all new parishioners into the St. Peter family by establishing several points of contact with them once they register. These points of contact include: a new parishioner folder, a welcome phone call, and a welcome luncheon.

When and Where: Calls are made from a volunteer’s home, new parishioner folders are stuffed in the Parish Hall as needed, luncheons are held in the Parish Hall, gift bags are stuffed in the Parish Hall the Friday prior to the luncheon.

Time Commitment: 1–2 hours every other month

Talents and Gifts: Congeniality, able to converse with many different people, warm and welcoming, organized and knowledgeable about what’s going at St. Peter parish.

Food for Families

Purpose: To collect non-perishable food from parishioners and distribute it to provide assistance to the poor.

When and Where: The 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month to distribute food in the Parish Hall.

Time Commitment: One Saturday per month, approximately 2 hours

Talents and Gifts: A love of God and a desire to help the poor.

Food for Friends

Purpose: Relief assistance of prepared food to the poor.

When and Where: Parish Hall Kitchen every Friday at 8:45 a.m.

Time Commitment: 1–3 hours a week.

Talents and Gifts: Kindness of heart, generosity and compassion to help others in need.

St. Vincent de Paul Society

Purpose: To reach out and provide support to the poor in our local community. Members of the ministry meet personally with those requesting help to determine what the needs are and how the ministry can best provide help.

When and Where: Bi-weekly ministry meetings on Tuesday evenings in the Parish Hall.

Time Commitment: About 2 hours a month to attend meetings and provide support for ministry events.

Talents and Gifts: A desire to help others. Bilingual-speaking people are needed.

St. Peter Singles Ministry — F.R.I.E.N.D.S.

Purpose: To provide single Catholic adults the opportunity to join in fellowship through social activities and community services with others who share the same religious beliefs and values.

When and Where: Social and Planning Meetings are held the second and fourth Tuesday of the month from 7–8 p.m. in the Parish Hall.

Time Commitment: 1 hour meeting a month and a 2 hour event a month.

Talents and Gifts: Meet new people and make them feel comfortable one-on-one or in a group.

Men’s Group

Purpose: To enable men to grow closer to Christ and to better equip them to deal with the daily struggles of their lives through on-going prayer, scripture study, study of the teachings of the Church, fellowship, and sharing with one another.

When and Where: Thursday mornings at 6:30 a.m. in the Parish Hall.

Time Commitment: 1–2 hours each week.

Talents and Gifts: A love of God and your fellow man. A willingness to: express one’s self, make friends, share one’s feelings and beliefs, grow in one’s understanding of who God is in their life, and grow in their relationship with God.

Giving Tree

Purpose: Provide Christmas gifts to needy children in Jupiter and the Catholic Charities of Belle Glade from newborn to 17 years old.

When and Where: Parishioners are asked to take a gift tag from the trees placed in the 3 entrances to the church at the end of November.

Time Commitment: ½ hour to take a tag, purchase the gift suggested on the tag and return it to church the following week. Ministry members, 3-4 hours to sort gifts the first Sunday of December.

Talents and Gifts: Willingness to give to others in need.

Prison Ministry

Purpose: To bring Christ to the imprisoned by talking with them about scripture and preparing them for Mass. Communion services are held at the local prisons during the week. This ministry is a part of the Diocesan Office of Prison Ministry.

Talents and Gifts: Love God and be willing to share this love with others. Membership is open to Catholics in good standing over the age of 21.

Respect Life Ministry

Purpose: Devoted to educating parishioners on our Catholic Church’s teaching that life is sacred from conception to natural death. Respect Life prays for a conversion of hearts and minds so that our society will live the call to be a culture of life, acknowledging that all life is a gift from God.

When and Where: Second Wednesday of each month (excluding June, July and August) in the Chapel

Time Commitment: 2–3 hours per month

Talents and Gifts: Prayerful, patient, committed to promoting a culture of life, articulate, willing to share their faith, persistent and optimistic.

Gifts of Faith

Gifts of Faith is our parish religious book and gift shop. It was opened to fill the need to have quality religious items available to our parishioners. You will find many treasures in the gift shop, some handmade by our own parishioners. Please stop in any time before or after our weekend Masses. We are located on the left as you enter through the main entrance to the Church. The staff will be happy to help you find what you are looking for, from Bibles to rosaries.

Substance Addiction Ministry (SAM)

Purpose: To provide education about addictive diseases; increase awareness of the pain in people’s lives and places where help can be found for those affected by/or afflicted with an addictive disease; and offer support, acceptance, understanding and healing.

When and Where: Monthly meetings are held on the 1st Thursday at 6:30 – 7:30 pm in the St. Maximilian Kolbe Room, Parish Hall.

Time Commitment: 1 hour per month

Talent and Gifts: Compassion for those affected by/or afflicted with an addictive disease, and who have either recovered from the affects or affliction or have actual experience in counseling or education directly related to addictive diseases.

Widows and Widowers Ministry

Purpose: To meet other people, enjoy good food, conversation, and companionship. We contribute to All Saints Catholic School through our 50/50 drawing.

When and Where: Various restaurants in the northern Palm Beach County or the Jupiter area.

Time Commitment: 2nd Sunday of the month at 1:00 p.m.
