The mission of our spiritual formation programs is to lead people to a closer relationship with Jesus Christ and His Church.  Our faith formation programs seek to provide an education in the faith for all children, young people, and adults involved.  We want to form a community of believers whose faith is active and alive.  The following programs are under the direction of the Religious Education office:

CHILDREN’S LITURGY OF THE WORD

This program, which strives to foster a sense of belonging among the children of our parish from pre-k through grade 4, takes place during the 9:30am and 11:00am Masses every Sunday.  The priest calls children forward before the Liturgy of the Word begins and invites them to go to the Chapel where they listen to the day’s readings from the children’s Bible and hear an explanation in language they can understand.  There is no registration required. Visitors are welcome.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL

Vacation Bible School is a summer opportunity for children entering Grades K through 5 to gather for fun and faith enrichment through story, song activity, and adventure.  Group and station leaders are needed, both adult and youth.

Religious Education, Grades Kindergarten through 7

Our program’s primary focus is to educate children in the Catholic faith. We strive, through age appropriate activities and materials, to make our faith come alive for the young people of St. Peter.  We meet on Tuesday and Wednesday after school in the Parish Hall and at All Saints School.

Sacrament Preparation

  • There is a two-year preparation program requirement to receive First Communion.  Children begin classes in grade 1 and then receive First Reconciliation and Communion in grade 2.  Children are also expected to attend Sunday Mass in order to be more fully prepared.

  • Children and Youth older than second grade who have not received Baptism, Reconciliation, and/or Communion, are invited to participate in classes specifically geared for those individuals. We will strive to meet individual needs and address special situations if alerted to them.  Classes meet at the same time as the K through 7th grade classes.  In addition to class time, participation is required at Sunday Mass.

At St. Peter, religious education does not stop at Grade Two when sacraments are received. Each grade level adds another layer of knowledge of what it means to be Catholic, and strengthens our faith in God by learning about what He wants from us as His children.
